Hi all, I am planning to have surgery the 9th of July with Dr. Jawad and was wondering if there are any support groups in Jax.?  If so, when and where do you meet?  Are the meetings open to anyone that has had WLS or for only patients that have had surgery from nearby MD's? Thanks  Christa

I know there is an "open" one in the Arlington area of Jacksonville, usually the 3rd Saturday of the month Below is the URL for the May posting http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/FL/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,4811/cat_id,4411/topic_id,3296881/ You might try using that post to contact the member and see what the scoop is for June. I've not been to one of hers, as my surgeon and the hospital he is affiliated wtih have support groups. His and the actual hospital's are the ones I attend. You might call Memorial Hosptial and see if thier monthly group is open to anyone or just people that have had thier surgery done there The program director's name is Rhonda Rapp. Her number is 904-399-6360

Hi Chrita.... I'm the person Cindy was talking about and Dan from our group sent me an email and told me you were looking for a support group. Cindy is right....we meet in Arlington on the 3rd Saturday of each month but we also meet on the 1st Saturday of each month.  When there's an extra Saturday in the month (like this month), we hope a "special" meeting and do something fun.  This month we're having a BYOL (bring your own lunch) meeting out in Mandarin and will just spend the afternoon together laughing and enjoying the time together.  You're certainly welcome to join us. And, as Cindy said, there is a meeting at Memorial once a month.  I believe its on a Thursday night but Rhonda can tell you all about that.  Just give her a call.   Please email me and let's keep in touch.  I'd be happy to help in any way that I can and my group would be more than happy to welcome you to the "family".   Blessings to you on this journey.  Its well worth the trip. La Wanda
