Hi,  just wanted a quick survey about how long everyone kept their G-tubes in.  Did anyone get away with not having one at all?   Thanks Christa

LOL  Nice try, Christa!!!! I got away with no G-Beast,,,,then again, I got the LAP-BAND.  No one (with RNY) goes home without it.  Dr Jawad takes every precaution, and most folks are happy (in the end) that they had it!!!  I saw you ask on the other forum if was for days of weeks, and yes, it is weeks.  Haven't seen him pull one out before time either. Just wanted to say hello.  I read your profile.  You are so smart, and beautiful.  You are going to feel great,,,,very soon.  Please keep us posted.

Hi there, I had the beast I think for three weeks...I wouldn"t change any of Dr. Jawad's protocol...He  is an expert that makes decisions for a reason.  I work in an active job and worked with the tube  without problems...it smelled a bit and was a little uncomfortable but I am over two years out with a  maintained weight loss of 150 pounds...Wouldn't change or question a thing. Take care and good luck on the journey, Kirsten Rny 16 mar 05 290/140

I'm with Chantrel on that one!! Nice try!! You want Dr. J, you will have a G beast. Honestly it isn't really that bad. It's mostly annoying than anything else. It's a great back up precaution.  He's a wonderful surgeon, and you'd be in great hands with him. There's a method to his madness!!  Oh yeah, almost forgot, I had mine in I want to say it was 5 weeks. Good luck, Jo Ann

Christa, I have to assume you're asking that because you're freaked out by the thought of having a G-tube, but as I've said so many times as Dr. Jawad's angel, just remember that 1) it's temporary and 2) if 80-year-old folks can live with a G-tube following a stroke and NOT complain, then surely WE can do it!! It really is for our own protection!  Have you read how many people have problems post-op with getting their fluids in and having to go to the ER for IVs to combat dehydration?  You will never read that happening to a Dr. Jawad patient.  They don't have problems and they rarely use the G-tube.  I only used mine to stick the yucky tasting liquid vitamins in! Dr. Jawad is #4 in the country for a reason!  Take a deep breath and you will be fine.

I think Jan said it all.  I had my G tube for 6 weeks.  It was an annoyance, not a pain.  I was able to sleep in bed from the first day home and I used it for the ucky vitamin liquid iron.  That I still have to take.  At night I wish I had my G tube......You will not be sorry you used the best Dr in our area.  To know him is to respect him and his decisions.  Best of luck to youChrista
