LOSING INSURANCE
Please please can any one answer this for me. There is a good possibility I might be laid off and lose my Empire bc/bs which does cover WLS. If that happen's I have the option off carrying Cobra coverage for 18months can I still be approved and covered with that like I would under my group BC/BS plan.
thank you to all that can help
Cobra is the very same insurance that you currently have from your employeer - the only difference is that you will be required to pay 102% (min) of the cost - 100% + 2% administration fee. The total amount can vary and you should look into it with your employeer.
How soon will you be going for the surgery? Have you been approved and has a date been set? Is your company possibly going to rehire you is the layoff temp?
Things to consider. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your help. I might be laid off around the time I am done with my 6 month mandatory diet. I am in the proccess now of the phsyc eval and so on. The only good thing is if I do get laid off my company will cover COBRA for 3 months. I just wasn't sure if BC/BS would be more likely to deny me if I tried to get approved paying by Cobra it is a very sressfull situation at the moment.
Hi,
You can stay on Cobra for up to 18 months. Cobra can not deny you just because you are using the health plan. My husband is currently on Cobra. His 18 months is in Sept. Lets see, he has had 3 surgerys since he started Cobra and medical bills I think at least 250,000. I bet former employer can't wait til Sept and he will be off Cobra LOL..............
