anyone have capital health through the state?
i tried about a year ago to have this surgery done and they denied me because i did not lose the required 10% of my weight in time. i could have continued but i got so frustrated i quit. This will be my sixth try with an insurance company for this surgery. i went on thinking screw it, if they denied me take care of me fat keep me on the meds and continue seeing the specialits. but now my knees hurt so bad and it is an effort to walk,it is scaring me. I have cut out alot like soda, fried foods, eating more healthy stuff and have lost like 13lbs in 6 months. I know the key is exercise, but i also have peripheral neuropathy and it is diffecult to walk its so painful at times. i just had my 35th birthday the other day and i am scared i am not going to make it to my 36th. i could whine and moan but and make excuses but its my fault, i put the food in my mouth, and i made myself fat. Now i need to have this surgery done. This time last year i was a mess, now i have an idea on how to eat and what to do. Any way
has anyone recently had CHP and had surgery done?
thanks

Emily,
I do not know anything about CHP but I wanted to wish you much luck on this your new journey. I know how hard it is but I also know it can be done. My first try the surgeon wanted me to lose 100 pounds before he would put me on the schedule. After about 80 pounds I started thinking I could do it on my own and didn't go back to the surgeon. Of course I gained it all back and every pound brought a friend or two back with it! LOL!
After I injured my knee and gained more pounds and became oxygen dependent I ecided to try again witha fidderent surgeon. He didn't require me to lose any weight before surgery but my cardiologist wanted me to have a heart cath before she would clear me for surgery and I had to lose 65 pounds in order to have the heart cath. I had lost about 79 before I had my surgery though. My heart cath was good and three and a half weeks later my heart stopped on the OR table. I think that 79 pounds that I lost may have saved me life. Not sure I would have survived the cardiac arrest if I had of been 79 pounds heavier. Anyway my surgery was Feb.7 and I have lost 86 pounds since my surgery. My point is that you will be amazed by how much just a little weight lost will change the way you feel. By the time I had my surgery I was able to walk easier and I didn't have to use the oxygen any more. Since my surgery I no longer need the oxygen at night or my CPAP. I am able to walk much more now too. I still use my handicapped sticker to park and use a scooter if I have to go in a big store or buy a lot of stuff but in smaller stores like Food Lion I can get through without needing a scooter most of the time now. I still have a lot of pain in my knees (probably because I can no longer take anti-inflammatories)but overall my health has improved so much. I am off of both of my BP meds, diuretics, potassium and my Imdur.
I tell you all of this basically to say this surgery can Save your life. It is worth whatever hoops they (insurance) make you jump through in order to get it done. Don't give up! You can do this!
