Insurance for people like me...
I'm not new to this website, but I've just moved from SC to Pensacola and I'm still interested in having this surgery. I had actually started the process, as far as seminars and meeting the doctors, but an hour after the first seminar I got a call for a job promotion and to move here. Of course I took it and now I'm looking for a hospital or surgeon that I could have do my surgery. The problem now is that I don't have insurance. As you already know, most insurance companies won't insure someone who is 5'2" and 385lbs. I was flat out told that today. I need help!!!
Unless it was through a company pre-op I was always turned down for insurance based on weight. I'd suggest getting on through an employer (they rarely ask for medical history, weight, etc.)
or... some states have insurance policies you can purchase through the state insurance commissioner's office http://www.cobrahealth.com/statehighriskpools.html
or there's financing to self pay (in the states or like I did SOTB) I can give you some financing sites links if that would help.

Hi There,
If your employer doesn't offer a group policy, then perhaps consider taking on a part time job w/some place like Marriott... they offer an excellent insurance package to all their employees. It varies by region. Just an idea. Personally, I remember all too well how huge of lack of energy I had at that wt, so I wouldn't have been able to take my own advise on this one... I didn't realize a group plan could descriminate for any reason.
Best wishes to you,
