Only 16 Days to Surgery! What then? Advice requested.

Hi Everyone! I have finished all of my testing, psych eval., sleep study (I do have sleep apnea - no surprise there), and am scheduled to have surgery (RNY)on May 30th. I meet with Dr. Kim on Friday, and the following Friday I will go for the all day prep session. As a teacher, finishing up the school year is going to keep me so busy that this time will probably fly by. The CPAP for sleep apnea is still kind of strange. Anyone know if there's a chance I can give it up after taking off the weight? My mind is still a whirlwind of thoughts and I probably still have a million questions. Any advice or words of wisdom? I am really curious about the first few days after surgery. Last year at this time, my gall bladder was removed - but not laperascopically - so that was a difficult recovery. I'm hoping this will be a lot easier. Will I be bed bound when I first get out - how much or how little will my mobility be? How long will I be confined to the house? When will I be able to drive? What should I do now at home for when I return from the hospital? Anything I need to buy? I live alone so I want everything ready. I don't want to be a pest to anyone unless it's urgent. Thanks!

Congrats on your decision to have the surgery. I am 4 weeks post op...and also in education. I was able to return to work after 10 days..however I was still having a good deal of pain in the incision area. The first week home was kinda rough... felt pretty lousy and was happy to have had my sister-in-law come to stay with me and monitor my food/protein intake, If she had not been here- I don't know that I would have been able to do what I needed to do on my own. I began driving at about 7 days out...I did a lot of resting- lots of couch time... and it seemed like I was drinking protein shakes or water all the time in order to get in all the requirements. Good luck to you...you'll do great!! I spent a lot of time on line in this kind of support group. Anne

Thanks for your input. Actually I thought it would have been less due to it being laperascopic. I am going to have to cancel out on some plans and it's good to know now.
