Ana, where have you've been since joining the OH in November? You need to call United Health Care and see if your HMO even covers any of the WLS. And if so what if any are the Requirements they'll need to Approve your application. Also it'd be best to go to every WLS Seminars by Surgeons in your area or as far as you will travel before deciding on any one Surgeon. To find the one you'll be most comfortable with. Good Luck and ask any questions no matter how silly you think they may be. Mike

Ana- Is your UHC through your employer or is it a medicaid HMO? If it is a medicaid HMO I know that some of the medicaid HMO's do cover WLS -- so if UHC does not cover it you may be able to switch over to a plan that does cover it. Red

Hi Ana, I have UHC HMO, as a state of FL employee. They made me go through the 2nd level of appeals w/denials and after that was exhausted, then I was able to open a case with AHCA www.myflorida.com they are a review panel assigned by the Governor to review HMO and insurance claims... It came down to a couple of days prior to the telephonic hearing when I received the news that UHC changed their minds and decided to pay for the surgery. It took 9 months to have this surgery approved. It was well worth every part of the effort and frustration of the journey. My surgeon is Dr. Paul Wizman, MD. www.DrWizman.com He performed a flawless Roux En Y by lap scope on me back on Halloween 2006. Best of wishes to you!! Kim, Boca Raton, FL
