Can anyone answer a question for me? My family history involves ALS which is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known as: Lou Gehrigs disease it is a fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells that are responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. The disease belongs to a group of disorders known as motor neuron disease. My question is if having the Gastric By pass surgery can this provoke the disease or cause any symtoms of the disease. Please help me because I truly want to have the surgery but my neurologist suggest that I wait until I have further exams and studies. Please if anyone has had a similar situation please advise..... Thank you, Tanya

Tanya- You need to speak with an experienced surgeon about this. You might also want to do a search at pubmed to see if anyone has done some research on this. Good luck. Red
