Can anyone give me an idea of the diet that Dr Jawad's office puts you on 2 weeks prior to surgery? I have to schedule my appointment with the nutritionist but was just curious what the diet is....I thought that Kevin told me it's liquid with one meal a day.....I could be wrong (bound to happen eventually Thanks! What Kevin told you is the answer! I was told that they put you on this so that it can bring the size of your liver down.

It actually allows them to get a better grip during surgery. Your liver is surrounded by the excess fat and they need it to be dissolved by surgery.

Don't know about Jawad but the basic pre-op diet is the same for all surgeons- and it is as follows : 1. no starches or simple sugars - no bread, pasta, candy, cake, sweets 2. cut meal portions in half, 3. eat lean proteins - fish, chicken - fresh fruit veg with each meal. 4. consume 2 servings a day of dairy - skim milk or lowfat yogurt 5. drink 80oz. fluid per day -at least 50ozs should be water. 6. Take an adult multi-vitamin 2 X a day any brand 7. try to exercise at least 5 days a week walking swimming etc. 30mins a day Now this is a precurser to what is to come. This will be about what you diet is going to be comprised of a couple of weeks after surgery. You'll do the shakes and clear broths for about a week or two after. the reason for this initial diet, is to shrink the liver - very important as it reduces the chance of them "knicking" the liver during the surgery- so don't even think of not following the plan.

Thanks everyone for your help! I am getting so excited. I had my psych eval yesterday and she cleared me for surgery and I am getting ready to call the nutritionist and set up a phone consult. I just came back from having the liver ultrasound so hopefully all was okay there. Almost ready! Smiles, Toni
