surgery payment/ United Healthcare

Has anyone used United Healthcare for payment for the lap band surgery in South Florida? I would like to start the process but I want to know if my insurance coverage will be complicated.

Damaris, UHC was granting and paying Left & Right last year and I haven't heard of any deniles this year. But it'd be best to call them directly and ask them what their requirements are for your policy. As there are differences in those on Deisability and those working as through an employee exclusions. Hi Damaris, UHC still covers Lap-Band, but it is always up to your employer, or whomever purchases you policy from UHC. That person (or committee) determines the benefits for which they are willing to pay. UHC requirements are also different than UHC IBM and UHC Medicare policy requirements as well. So, the shortest and most accurate answer is that no one will know for certain until your benefits are verified by a surgeon's office. HTH, Kristen

Hi, I have United Health Care. They paid for both of my surgeries, first the lap band then the RNY and they also paid for my husbands lap band. No questions asked. We didn't pay a dime out of our pockets for any of the surgeries. I LOVE United, they have been really good to us. They have never denied anything on our end. My husband didn't even have to get any of the testings done for his lap band. They just approved it as soon as they got the request. Good luck, Jo Ann

Unfortunately, I was not as fortunate! UHC did not pay for ANY of my suregery but it was due to the coverages my employer did (and didn't) elect to pay for in their premium. THAT is where your answer lies.
