I would say don't stock up on protein shakes. What you like now you might not after surgery. (I made that mistake) Bring very little with you to the hospital.. I brought a comfy gown and robe. It helped me get around the halls and feel better. Lotion was helpful, but you are going to sleep most of the time. I wish I had brought my I pod with me as they were out of private rooms and it was noisy. Also do your homework about the hospital and make sure it has good reviews from those of us that have gone before... and walk, when you dont feel like it do it anyway.. it helps...

Dawn, which area Surgeon are you using? Which Hospital as their all different too? And which Surgery will you be receiving also? Depending on which surgery & hospital procedures will make a difference on wether you might need or they'll allow you to wear your own gown. But forget taking any biiks or magazines. You won't feel like cracking them open. But do take comfy slippers to walk around. Which they'll have you up often doing. But just relax, keep positive and do get up as often as you can. Your healing will be quicker than just laying there. And if you do have any complaints, problems or unattentitive staff.. Tell your Surgeon. They want you to be happily healing so you'll tell your friends to us them too. Soon you'll be on the WLS Train to Losersville too!! Mike

Dawn, Hi! Congrats on getting your date! I have to tell you that the hospital has just about everything that you will need. They have large size gowns at least mine did. I brought a couple of gowns and a robe but never used them. It was easier to wear theirs. I agree with the suggestion not to stock up on protein before you go. Your taste will probably change and what yopu liked before will taste terrible after. That happened to me. My only suggestions about what to take would be something to read (book, magazine etc.) a list of phone numbers for those you will need to call whose numbers you don't have memorized and most of all chap stick!!! Most of the hospitals have chap stick, mouthwash and toothpaste but some folks just prefer their own favorite brand. Believe me when I say that your mouth will be sooooo dry after surgery and before you can eat or drink (if you are having RNY). My mouth was so dry my lips stuck to my teeth when I tried to talk. Thankfully they allowed me to keep a cup of ice water by my bed so I could wet my lips and mouth, brush my teeth and use my mouthwash often. That was a lifesaver for me!!! Good luck to you! Kat

Fuzzy socks! and don't let them lie to you it will hurt but it is SO worth it, and the more you walk in the hospital the quicker you can get on the road to recovery
