Hi Sandy, My husband works for the State of Florida and we have Avmed. The approval process took 3 whole days. I sure hope you are enrolled with avmed too.

HI! I have AvMed but how would I know if it is state of Florida or not? My husband works for the university system (here in Gainesville at UF) and I *THINK* he is considered state of FL.... what sort of employment plan do you have AvMed coverage under? I am not clear about WHICH type of AvMed readily approves the WLS vs. the type that denies coverage... Anna

Hey Sandy. That is Dr. Overcash's office - my surgeon too. Just call and set up a consult -that part is free. Once you have completed that you can sit down with Patrice, who works with him, and she will let you know all you need to know - she's great!... I had BCBS at the time of my surgery, but that was well over 2 years ago and things change. Hope this helps! ~ Monica

I am pretty sure he is considered a state of florida employee. He should be able to tell you or you can look at his paystubs and that should say it. We have AVMED OPEN ACCESS coverage and they approved my surgery in three days. Make sure you submitt all the paperwoek, the most important one is the letter of necessity from your PCP. Good luck on your journey, do not give up!
