Waiting for my answer!
Hi everyone, this is my first post! I am waiting on my answer from BCBS to see if they will pay for my surgery. Good chance I will know something today they say! Keep all of your fingers crossed for me. I think I have a good shot at it so I have everything done but a few blood test and meeting with the DR. So if I get the approval and depending on the Dr's schedual it looks like I could have the surgery done mid April to the end of April!
I am so nervous waiting for the answer. But I am soooooooo ready to do this and to start my journey toward finding the "old" me!!! But most of all I can't wait to just feel healthy again.
So I will keep you posted on my situation. Wish me luck!!
Hi Judy ~
For what it's worth, I have BCBS Federal PPO through BCBS FL, and had no problem getting approval once my paperwork was submitted by my surgeon's office. The key there is to be sure that your surgeon's office is actually submitting the paperwork. I had gotten to the "waiting for approval" point with one local surgeon, and came to find out that they never submitted my paperwork to BCBS!! I waited literally for months, and was told repeatedly by the office staff at this particular surgeon's office that the hold up was with the insurance company. I became irate after being given the runaround by that office and called BCBS myself only to find out that they never DID submit my paperwork! It all happened for the best though, because that incident was the last straw for me with that office and I sought out my surgeon, the one who performed my surgery, Dr. Richard Gordon. His office received approval from BCBS within one business day, and I could not be more pleased with the care I have received from my pre-op visits, through the surgery, and my subsequent after care and post op visits. It was truly a blessing in disguise, but all this is to say that having had personal experience with BCBS, I know it is not a long, drawn out process, and don't be shy about calling BCBS. Be sure to get the names of people you talk to and their extensions, so you can connect with them in future phone calls if you need to.
With all that said, I wish you the absolute BEST of luck! You have taken a major step to improve your health and quality of life - good for you!! Congratulations for getting this far, and please do keep us updated!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and saying a prayer for you!

Thanks Terri. My Ins. is BCBS of Texas. I have it through my husbands employment. I have done everything they ask for so I see no reason why they would not approve it but you never know. So I wait! I really had hoped to hear something yesterday. My surgeons office submitted the request and it was 3 weeks yesterday. They called last Monday and wer told it had been imputed and was in a pending status. I was told it normally takes about 30 days so if that is correct I should know something soon.
It's funny I have been considering this for over 2 years but it seems the closer I get the more nervous I get!!! I guess that is normal!! It is so nice to have this web site to turn to. It really helps calm me!
I will post again as soon as I hear one way or another. Have a great day!
