I've been gone for a while. I ran into a Insurance Company Hell Hole(OMG)! But the Moons Aligned today. I got the call from my Surgeon's office. My Lap-Band is scheduled for 3/27/07 so as of right now 12:10am 3/13 I'm on the optifast for 2 weeks. I have a question for anyone who's done this? How did you cope with eating nothing Solid? I'm not saying I'm not going to give a 110% I've been waiting for this moment for a looooong time. I'm totally Pumped! I guess I'm looking for people that had already been down this road to shed some Light, Tips, Pointers, Advice??? Thanks So Much~~

I have done both Optifast and Medifast, and both worked great. It was surreal @ first not "chewing" but really I felt full most of the time because of the number of liquids I was consuming, plus I was drinking water to boot! I tried to steer away from social events that included eating so not to stand out or have someone pull me into the conversation of "THE LIQUID DIET" but honestly Rocko, your goin to do fine and I bet the next 2 weeks will fly by,,just keep yourself busy and your day will be here before you know it. Keep us posted and hang on for the ride of a lifetime!!

Rocko, I did not have to do a liquid diet prior to my wls surgery (RNY). However, years ago I did Optifast for 14 weeks (Yep - no food for 4 1/2 months and only lost 59 lbs which I gained back within a year.) You can mix the protein powder with sugar free Jello gelatin and have something sort of solid. It makes the Jello look cloudy and tastes a wee bit grainey but it still beats having only liquids. Also, Optifast makes a soup-flavor for a change when you're tired of the sweet tasting protein powders. Good luck with your liquid diet and wls. If you follow your doctor's plan to the letter you'll do great! Vickie J.

Thank You very much for the vote of Confidence! I think it's just the thought of not "Chewing" ! But I'm very focused and hopefully my Persistance will Prevale! Thank You Again, Rocko G.

You will do fine, and the jello suggestion was a great idea the other poster suggested. My worst times in the beginning were at night so keep your fingers and mind busy and it'll be ok. Your welcome and good luck again!!

Hi, Rocko I just had my lapband done on 2/16/07 and I had to do the Opti-fast. It really helped me adjust to the other stages of eating that is to take place at post-op. I mentally was ready as well. One rule I suggest is follow precisely what your surgeon instructs you and drink lots of water along with the Opti-fast. Good luck on your journey and God bless you. Yanselli

Rocko - I didn't have to do Optifast but I was placed on a no solid food diet 2 week prior to my surgery - I self imposed it for 3 weeks. I was allowed to drink chicken and beef broth, jello, s/f waterice, and my protein shakes. The key for me was: VARIETY I tried not to look @ it as a liquid diet but an adjust to what my new life would look like in the few weeks after surgery. PS: Avoid the TV - that was the one thing that drove me nuts - all the TV ads for food..... Read a book (not a cookbook) excercise, golf, walk, swim - keep yourself occupied! Best of Luck! Keep us posted! XXOXOXOX
