depression
Hi Karyn,
Congratulations! The biggest step is recognizing that you aren't your normal self, and wanting to change that. For many people, that can take months, even years.
I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety about a year post-op. For all of my adult life I used food as my therapy, my reward, my punishment...you get the idea. And then it was gone and/or drastically reduced. Dr. Kim likes to say that we do surgery on our guts - not on our heads.
Maybe you can make an appointment with your PCP to discuss? Meds aren't for everyone, but the day my Lexapro kicked in, the fog lifted and life has been oh, so good. I wish the same for you.
Take care, Karyn.

I had my surgery Nov 14, 06. I have lost 50 pounds and just lately I have been depressed, just kind of sad and not really wanting to get out much. I called my primary physician and she put me on 50mg zoloft. It took about 4 days but I feel so much better, its like the little things don't matter. If you really get sad and just want someone to talk to, give me you number by private email and I don't mind calling you .Please get some help for it because there is no reason to feel depresseed. You have so many people on this site on your side and going through the same thing.

Hi, Oh my Gosh, I know how you feel! I have had depression most of my life. Been on meds for years, but was not prepared for "after WLS depression". My old meds did not work, so was put on a new med and have worked with the dose with doc for about 6 months now. Think we have the correct amount. Do see your PCP. We should not have to live with depression. With our new life in front of us.
