I was wondering if any one else was using this drug for depression or anything else I was prescribed this drug on Friday and it has completely killed my apetit all together. Any and all input is appreciated.

I have been taking topamax for over a year now and it never had that effect on me. Although my neuro doc told me there was a possibility I might lose weight taking it, he said I could lose 30 pounds at the most. The only side effect I have noticed is a slight cognitive impairment. I have trouble thinking of the words I want to say sometimes. I should say I can think them but then it is hard to say them -- like there is breakdown between the brain and mouth. But, the longer I have taken the medication the less frequently I have those spells. Good luck. Red

Funny it has not effected my mood, at least not so as I would notice. I take it for migraines/seizures. Red

I was precribed Topamax by my neurologist...he wanted to help jumpstart my weight loss again because I had stalled at 330, from 502 for more than a year....he just began seeing me for a mini-stroke at the time and asked me what I was doing about my weight and I was like well I had WLS and things are stalled but I am still seeing my surgeon and trying to lose...he offered me Topamax...gave me the risk...memory issues...words...etc. I said I would take the script but needed to do my own research before taking the pills. Well, at first I as really leary because we all know there is no "magic pill"....and I also knew 30lbs wasn't going to put a dent in what I really still needed to lose...so why risk it. Then someone asked me...why was I so worried over the risk of a pill when I risked my life for surgery just to lose weight and at this point with having had a mini-stroke my life was slighly more at right due to my weight.... So when I went back to see him he asked me how I was doing on it and I told him I wasn't taking it and he answered more questions for me...and said I think this will give you the motivation you need to keep losing past the 30lbs..so I began it...that was Dec. 2005. I also at the time began working a second job, and watched my food more closely since I knew not to rely on a pill. But I noticed I could go without "thinking about food". I would have to remember to eat...no always but more often than not. Between Dec-March I lost 20lbs....I realized it was easier to stick to a strict meal plan to lose...which I then was trying harder to lose because I wanted my hernia repair and panniculectomy...by Nov. 2006 I'd lost 60lbs. So it did give me that motivation because for over a year I was stalled and I finally saw the scale move...I do search for words sometimes...and in the beginning I had some tingling in my hands and feet.
