Hair Thinning Help
I'm 3 1/2 months post-op and down 57 lbs. I take my vitamins everyday, eat or drink my daily protein intake. I noticed this week that strands of my hair are coming out just by running my hand through it or when I wa**** I knew this could potentially happen after the surgery.
Is there a vitamin, a shampoo or something I can get that can help with it?
You are losing your hair about the same time most of us did. Once it has started it has to run it's course. Try to get 60 to 80 grams of protein daily, drink 64oz or more of liquids (protein drinks count), when you shampoo don't scrub your scalp, try zink and biotin with your daily vitamins. These will help to put the breaks on it, but you can expect it to last a couple of months. The good news is that I have never seen a bald post-op yet. Hang in there it will get better. After about 8 months post-op I cut my shoulder length hair shorter and it helped to catch up all the new growth and feel thicker. Most of the time people with short layered hair won't notice the loss too much, because they don't have far to go with the new growth catching up.
You want to take the Biotin (at least 500mg) and the Zinc (no more than 50mg as too much Zinc will burn the insides of your Pouch) together. The Zinc helps your bidy absorb the Biotin. I've been taking this combination for a month pre-op and every day since and haven't lost any hair. You also need to keep your protein intake up to at least 60-80 mg or more per day.
But between the Biotin/Zinc & Protein these will generate new growth of hairs in the months to come so don't worry yourself about losing the hairs on your head.
Good Luck,
I lost more than half my hair.... i take in the right protien and vitamins and i take biotin. the hair still came out, but my surgeon told me to double up on the vitamins and biotin so that it would grow back better, and it is coming back in....i will be a year out in april, and i have alot of new growth. it got worse before it got better, and there were many times i cried in the shower bc of all the hair coming out. but i would do this again and again to feel the way i do now.
take care and know it is just part of the journey!
