It's finally official. After a long battle with pre-op testing and having to lose a lot of weight on her own and then having a cardiac catheterization just the other week, I'm pleased to say that Kat Harding is on the Loser's Bench with us finally!!! Dr. Overcash did a great job with her. It wasn't an uneventful surgery, but the outcome is that Kat is feeling very well. Why shouldn't she feel pretty good though, since she's got that PCA pump attached to her???? Kat is hoping that all continues to go well for her, that she passes her leak test tomorrow and that she will be able to head back home to Jax tomorrow evening (Friday). Speaking for myself, Kat is a sweet, dear lady with a wonderful family and some really cute grandkids! It was a pleasure spending a little time with the bunch and I hope to pop in on them briefly tomorrow!

I was with Kat at the time of the surgery as I'm a support group leader here in Jacksonville and am honored Kat chose our group to hang out with. The surgery wasn't uneventful but I've not told our support group any information in hopes that Kat will tell them when she sees them next Saturday. The important thing is that Kat is on the losing side and the surgery is over and she's going to be fine. La Wanda 308/218/200

Which surgery did Kat receive? Tell her were thinking good will for her recovery and to stay positive and start walking.

Kat had open RNY on Wednesday, February 7th. She had to be at the hospital at 6. I was driving down from Jacksonville to Ocala and called her son at 9 to ask what time they took her in. She was still in pre op holding. I called at 10... she was still there. I was starting to get a little irritated that she'd been back there all that time and nobody every told her or the family what time the surgery was actually scheduled for. It was kind of like they were trying to work her in when she's had this date for over a week. Anyway, the good new is I DID get there in time to see her before they wheeled her back. She went to the OR at 12:15. At 1:15 (since I knew it'd be about an hour so I went outside for some fresh air), I went back in and asked her kids for an update. They said "they took her in to surgery at 1". Oh, geez, the day is getting longer. But, she made it. She's on the bench with us. She was in a lot of pain Thursday and Friday but she passed the leak test. She does have a fever and didn't get to come home on Friday as planned but I'm hoping when I talk to her today she'll be better. But, like she said, it's better to be there with a fever than home. And, yes, she got up and started the walking on Wednesday afternoon. Thank goodness for good drugs. She's still got the morphine pump and she's doing plenty of getting up so all is good.
