Hey gang, almost 10 months post-op and down about 220 pounds. I have developed quite the large hernia and I think I am getting one on the opposite of my abdomen as well. I know this is common, and I've been through many hernia repairs in the past before my surgeon. I want to get these taken care of once and for all. I know I'm going to require a tummy tuck as well. We're talking major abdominal reconstruction here. I had this same type of surgery in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins about 3-1/2 years ago where they put a huge piece of mesh over my entire abdomen, from my ribcage down to my pelvic bone. This was jeapordized by my putting weight back on afterwards. I am looking for a surgeon in the Palm Beach/Broward County area that specializes in this type of repair. Cleveland Clinic, where I had my bypass, can do this, but doesnt except my insurance (I was self pay). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. John

It's farther south than you mentioned but the surgeon is excellent, she actually repaired my fairly large hernia without mesh and then I had a plastic surgeon do my panniculectomy. Dr. Patricia Byers did the hernia repair and Dr. Seth Thaller was my PS...both at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial here in Miami. I had BCBS Highmark. Hey Sarah, thanks for replying. Did they do both at the same time? Miami is not out of the question for me. I should have introduced myself to you at the Fort Lauderdale conference in August. I was sitting in the row behind you. Hope things are well for you. John

They performed the surgeries together. Dr. Byers did the hernia repair first then Dr. Thaller finished with the panniculectomy. I just the procedures on December 7th. There are some pictures on my profile if you are brave...I had a post-op infection so they show some open wounds. Yes, you should have said "Hi"....I won't be able to attend the Orlando one this year. Sarah
