Sweating/itching after eating?
Cathy, It sounds like dumping but a very mild case. Watch your carbs. You're only four months out, you should't be eating too many carbs, as in bread, pasta, rice, even certain cereals. Read your labels. Make sure the sugar content is VERY low. Concentrate on your protein, water and veggies and some fruit. I hope you have a nutritionist. If you do, please speak or call her and they will explain dumping. It can get very serious. I am 19 months out, have lost 235 pds. Have 20 to go. I am from Miami and my doctor, Dr. Sosa, has a multi-faceted surgical plan. You have the surgery and he never lets you go. You see a nutritionist before and after surgery, you see him, I still do, and I go to monthly support groups sponsored by the hospital where I had the surgery and led by my surgeon. So definitely it sounds like a mild form of dumping. Check it out. Good Luck and be careful with what you eat now. You're healing and be good to yourself. Phyllis (fatnomo)
It definitly sounds like dumping. I am 11 months out and down 126lbs, and I go through the same thing if I have something to eat with more than 4 grams of sugar in it! Fruit also does it to me. Sometimes my heart will even start beating very fast!! Be very careful of your carbohydrates.

Phyllis, first off, WOW congratulations to you... Amazing, amazing story! I think you're dead on about the carbs, I've cut down since reading your post and even just today noticed a reduction in the 'symptoms'. THANK YOU! I will make it a point to get an appt with the nutritionist. I just need to tighten up on my intake. I bought a starter pack from SMARTFORME.com bariatric food; it's great and was on special, so I got 12 shakes/puddings/soups for just 9.99.. and they are GOOD too. They have 2 sample/starter packs, one for the early phase after surgery, and one for a little later that has some protein bars, etc. They are really yummy. Take good care and thanks again for the info

Cathy, I had this exact thing, and it took a while, but I narrowed it down to my multi-vitamins!! Within 1/2 hour of taking them, I'd get red in the face, down my arms and onto my chest and I would feel "*****ly". It was not pleasant and I decided that I had developed some weird allergy thing. I changed to Bariatric Advantage chewables and I'm fine now. Strange, huh? Could your problem be the vitamins or is it after every meal? Maybe we're just allergic to Ocala???
It's weird because I ONLY use the B/A vitamins. I got an email from Kevin and he thought it might be dumping too. I guess I need to realize that GOLDFISH CRACKERS are NOT a protein or water or veggie or fruit
I'm for sure allergic to Ocala now that Dr J has opened his satellite in Orlando; I dont miss the drive up there, but I may pop up now and then to say hi to everyone in the office. LOVE THEM!

I'm not sure about the niacin, BUT FYI my husband used to take NIASPAN per his cardiologist and one of the side effects of it is what they call flushing, where you get really hot and turn bright red like a lobster for a few hours till it passes. You're supposed to take the pill with an aspirin and precede it with a small low fat snack to help it absorb and defer the flushing. His doc switched him to Tricor and it has none of the icky side effects of Niaspan. As for me, I just get the niacin that is in my BA vitamins. I'm revisiting my food journal and will watch my choices BETTER
and see if I'm doing too many carbs (I think I am....) Thanks!

Hi everyone, I too had this in the beginning of soft foods. But I was also on another vitamin. So Jan its either being alergic to Ocala, or the vitamin change as i no longer have the *****ley feeling. I still do flush at time, but I always did when I ate.
Id like to know about carbs? I eat nothing white. No past, rice, bread etc. I had 1/8 of a sweet potato once and I have to have a banana a day but 1/2 at a time. The calcium chews have 10 grams of carbs. Can I eat any veges or will it put me over with the bananna and the calcium chews?
I have an ischemic ulcer in the pouch that is not really getting any better. Could use some info. Also have low potassium and cant have the OJ so thats why the bananna and was told no biotin too harsh for the ulcer. And how much protein do we really need? Thanks for the help
Hi Carole!! Sorry to hear that the ulcer is still not getting any better for you! What are they recommending to do for it??
As for your questions Dr. J wants us to get in at least 60g of protein a day. Usually it's 60-80g per day. I try to stay on the upper end of it. Some of us need more than 80g a day some of us don't. As far as carbs go veggies are good carbs so yes you can eat your veggies. The bad carbs are the "white" foods so yes you do want to stay away from them completley would be the best choice but if you do choose to have some of the white foods try to limit it to as little as possible.
How are things going for you otherwise?? I haven't been on the boards to much lately and I was wondering how you've been doing.
I hope some of this information helps you out some!!
