Believe me none were more suprised that me? Buy, here I lay under th xray thingy looking at my stomach, the doctor initially said he couldn't do the fill - I'm like "WHAT???" YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING!!!!! Thankfully, as he palpated my stomach, he was able to push so that you could see the port 'sideways' and after several sticks- I got my fill! Now he says all my fills will have to be under "flouro"....NOT AT 150.00 A POP!!!! Anyhoo, I'm due for a 2nd fill in 5 weeks and he's going to try to fix it! I hope he has morphine cause I'm not going under the knife again!!! LOLOLOL ---BUT--- iT'S NOT OVER YET.....I think that 'puppy' is not just upsidedown, but loose and playing havoc with my other organs...I'm having small odd pains in and around the surgery area, that I never had before....I'm going to see how it goes but I may end up back there a lot sooner..... I always was a trailblazer

Hi Belana, yesterday I went to the WLS Seminar which is mandatory with my surgeon Dr. Nestor De La Cruz-Muños. Although I am scheduled RNY surgery on 01/29/07 after attending the seminar I am more incline to the Lap Band. Please tell me how it went for you, how long have you had it, how much weight have you lost? Please help me decide.

Judith...Hello! I had my surgery 10/30/06 with Dr. Keith Kim at Celebration Florida Hospital, and other than the 'flip' I am extremely pleased with the outcome. I have had virtually no pain whatsoever! I mean, I had six small incisions - I had to be careful how I moved so as not to open them - but, that was it! I can't feel the band at all and the only way I know it's there is if I don't chew my food to mush before swallowing! Yipes, I got a small piece of chicken stuck and it wouldn't go down and I couldn't vomit for fear of dislodging the band - it was aweful! My whole body went cold and I kept belching to no avail - I then kept taking small sips of liquid till it finally went down but my chest hurt for an hour after!!! Scary, but my own fault - I haven't done that again - when they say blend all your food, they aren't kidding....anyhoo, I've gone from 430lbs to 391lbs at last weighing (i gained 6lbs over Xmas-but lost them again). I don't know what city you are in and I don't know Dr. De La Cruz - but it was definately worthwhile! I had to pay cash out of pocket as well - United healthcare said my office policy would not cover it! I took a loan against my house! Good Luck!!!

Thank you so much for replying, let me ask you what made you decide on the Lap Band over the RNY by pass?

Several things - My best friend died 2 weeks after surgery due to complications; I already have issues with blood clots; I've met several RNY patients who are right back where they started and have to have surgery -again -to repair the damage; I don't feel it's a good idea -for me- to reroute my organs; if something happened with my band it can be removed/replaced with minimum effort; it's a 45minute surgery...I could go on...but the fast weightloss did not impress me - I didn't gain 430lbs last night- so I dont expect to lose it in a month!!! It's much healthier to lose the weight at a slower pace, better for your heart and your health - drastic weight loss can be dangerous-your body cannot always deal with the shock - again, this is only my personal opinion, so don't all you experts swoop down on me! 90% of this has to do with personal dicipline - you have to be determined to make any surgery work - how much help you need will determine what surgery you choose - the lapband, is my tool for help - RNY will stop you in your tracks! I don't understand how those other folks screwed it up...seriously, that's scary! If I were 500-800lbs, I would have perhaps chosen the RNY as at that stage the weight would probably kill me before surgery!
