Drinking dilemmas anyone?
Hi all-
I had gastric bypass surgery one month ago. I've lost 22 pounds so far- YEAH!
I've had one consistent issue- drinking enough fluids. I find it so hard to sip all day long. And larger swallows of water KILL me! Does anyone else have/had this problem? Will it go away??? I'm dying to gulp down some water so I can feel hydrated!
Thanks for your help!
Roselle
Hi Roselle,
I had the same problem. And I was so anal that I calculated how long it took me to sip one ounce of water times # of ounces divided by hours in the day...well, you get the idea.
When you are newly post-op, you have to work towards getting the optimal number of ounces of fluid in. And I, too, had the impulse to gulp. I satisfied it by sipping continuously. One week was so hard for me that I actually had to set an alarm on my Palm pilot to remind me to drink!
Yes, it will go away. Do the best that you can right now, but do not gulp.
Hang in there!
Kristen
Early post op I would put my water in a medicine cup and determine to drink 2 Tblsps every 15 minutes...this, plus sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello kept me from dehydration for sure. I'm three plus years post op and still can't "gulp" but at least it's easier to sip....
best of luck.
