Hello everyone. I am about 3 1/2 weeks post op (gastric bypass). Some days I feel that I could just sleep all day. My doctor says I need to get on a schedule and eat 3 meals a day. It is hard at times, I don't wake up until late, almost lunch time and then only get 2 meals a day in. But, I am trying. Food has gotten better. I am able to eat almost anything. The exceptions are beef, poultry, pork, non toasted breads, sugars and carbonated drinks. It seems as if I live in Tuna, Fish and Shrimp. Actually getting kind of tired of and I am looking forward to being able to branch out. I did try to make a smoothie one night with bananas, strawberries (in splenda) and canned peaches (in splenda). I used ice, orange juice and the juice from the peaches. About an hour later I got the cold sweats and felt horrible. I tried to purge it and that didn't work. I took a shower and almost fainted. I have since learned that is what the dumping syndrome feels like. It was more than likely the peaches and juice from the peaches. Too many carbs and sugar from the fruit. Won't be doing that again. I go back to work on the 11th. I am looking forward to, and being on a normal schedule. that day marks my 4 weeks since surgery. I have also only lost about 30 pounds. Doctor said that is okay and normal. Body is adjusting. Well that is all for now! Just wanted to provide an update. i enjoy this website and reading everyone's input.

Hi Kimberly, You and I are at the exact same place. If you scroll to page 2 of these postings, look for a posting that says in the subject line "unbelievable fatigue". I had a lot of good advice given to me. I am still tired, but I started going back to work part time post op 2 weeks, and full time post op 3 weeks, and it has helped my stamina level a lot. The weekends are tough though. I am still tired, and then I feel guilty for not getting more done. I'm worried because I have a few cross country trips in the next few weeks and I don't know how I'm going to do, but I'll just have to deal with whatever happens. As everyone keeps reminding me, I have just been through major surgery and I have to listen to my body and sleep if I need to. I will tell you that this weekend has been much better than last weekend. I feel a lot better.

Kimberly, Sounds like you're right on schedule to me! I'm almost 2 years post op and you're almost a carbon copy of the way my first few weeks went. It takes a bit, but the tireness does eventually go away (for me recovering from anesthesia always takes over a month). And I think 30 lbs. is great!! When have you ever lost 30 lbs in less than a month in the past?? Follow your surgeons instructions and you'll do fine. Watch out for those carbs! I discovered last Christmas that I don't dump on sugar and have never had the severe dumping like you did. But I DO dump on carbs & fats. I get so unbelievablly sleepy that I just konk out right in the middle of a conversation. So now I know that if I over-indulge in carbs or a high fat meal I'd better plan to get somewhere I can stretch out for a 30-45 min nap b/c I'm going to fall asleep no matter how hard I try to stay awake. But after my little "power nap" I'm good to go! Hope to see you at our support group meeting tonight! Vickie J.
