how much weight loss is normal?

I know everyone responds to gastric bypass differently, but is there an average of how much weight should be lost every week, month, etc.? I have no idea if I'm doing well or not. I am 3 and a half weeks post op, and have lost 30 pounds. Don't get me wrong, I know 30 pounds is great, but when you have over 200 pounds to lose, it seems like peanuts.

Karyn I don't know if there really is an average. But girl It has taken me over a year to lose 74 pounds on my own to get a heart cath done so that I can get my surgery so I would be thrilled to death with a 30 lb. loss in a little over 3 weeks. I would say ask your surgeon or nutritionist what they would like to see maybe monthly as a weight loss and be happy if you can achieve that goal! As you said each body is different and it also depends on how heavy you are to start with how well you follow the nutritional plan if you get the right vitamins, proteins and H2O. There are so many variables here that noone can really say. Just do what you know you should do and hang in there. It will happen for you! Kat

Karyn, I am about 3 1/2 weeks post op my self and have lost about 30 pounds as well. I saw my doctor just prior to the new year and see him again on the 17th. He told me that i may only loose a few more pounds before seeing him again and that is normal I hope this helps.

Karen, I was told to expect to lose 50% of weight within the first six months. I need to lose 110 lbs and am 4 months out now. I have lost 67 lbs. Don't worry in the first month because your body is adjusting to your new requirements and may think you are starving so it may slow your metabolism as a protection mode. I would look at your weight no more often then say every two weeks or you will start to go nuts.

I did not keep track of the weightloss during the first few months. I had complications and I steadily lost all my weight within the first 6 months (110lbs).I've been at a stable weight for a year and half but still would like to lose 30 lbs before investing in plastic surgery. Don't worry, you'll get there. As for me....I need another miracle!
