I am 6 weeks post-op and down 38 lbs. I know the goal is to have 3 protein shakes a day but I'm having trouble getting the total protein in per day. I wanted to find out about the protein bars. I've looked at several and they are low in sugar and fat and high in protein some have 30 grams of protein but it wasn't in my guide for post op to have protein bars. Should I stick with the shakes and stay away from the protein bars? Will the protein bars hurt my weight loss?

Hi Dreama, Congratulations on your weight loss! We ask that our post-ops stay away from bars until they are at least six months out. I was truly addicted to the Peanut Butter Power Crunch bars. Then they tweaked the formula and just didn't taste the same. Thank goodness, because they were slowing down my weight loss (IMHO). Is your nuts goal three shakes a day or just to supplement what you don't take in as food protein? My surgeon wanted me to take in approximately 80 grams of protein, but as soon as I was reaching that I was able to scale back on the drinks. Have you looked at the "bullet" sized drinks like Profect? 2.7 fluid ounces and 20 - 25 grams of protein (or more, in some cases). HTH, Kristen

Dreama, Try Micellar Milk, the chocolate is really good and it has 40g of protein. I agree with the other posts...stay away from the protein bars. They can be addictive and although they give you some protein they also give you calories! Try going to www.bariatriceating.com and get the sample pack of protein mixes. It can help you identify a few that you like. I also question the need for three protein drinks a day if you're eating three meals that focus on protein. Add your total daily protein and if you're getting in 80gs you may be golden. (I believe the calculation is that 1oz of protein = 7 grams) Good luck Rhonda ps...did you own a store on Edgewater called Dreams?

Thanks for the information. I did go to GNC and purchased some protrien drinks that are high in protein, low in fat and 2 g sugar. I tried the Banana Cream this morning it was pretty good. 50 grams of protein per drink. They also have protein drinks that have 40 grams that are not a shake type. No I've never owned a store.
