Thanks so much for your insight. I would have replied earlier, but I was sleeping! (just kidding!). I am feeling a little better. But I find I'm getting depressed because the weight isn't "falling off" as some had said in other postings. I think that there is now so much publicity about gastric bypass that it can taint or diminish any weight loss that just isn't huge. I found myself in tears yesterday because I had only lost 4 pounds last week (for a total of 28 pounds instead of the 30 I previously thought). It's only been 3 weeks since surgery, but I've realized all of the hype and programs on tv about this surgery have given me an unrealistic mentality about the speed I should be losing weight. It's a mental battle as well as a physical one.

Heather is right - since you weren't taking a bariatric supplement, you might be low in Iron, B1 and B12, among other things. Labwork is a great idea. Kristen

Hi Kristen, Ive been following your responses on this site and feel you seem to know all or most of the answers. I have a similar problem. Im 10 weeks out and have only lost 37 lbs. I have syndromex or hyperinsulimia and my big fear is it will not work for me. Or will work to a point and stop. Today I was weighed by my gastro man and the weight has not budged in a few eeeks. I am so confused about the eating and protein shakes. And to add insult to injury I cant drink the nectars or profect or crystal lite or Isopure because I have ulcers due to the vit c in the vista vitamins. And I was predisposed to ulcers previous to surgery. The doctor has me on something with a z now already did prevecid and carafate. I need to know is a lean cuisine, the kind with no starches an ok dinner? Im having a shake for breakfast as it holds me the best. Im always hungry but I think its the sensation from the ulcer that is causing this. Im just calling on your expertise to help me out a bit. Lunch today was a 7 grain wasa lite at 20 calories and 1/4 cup of eggsalad. I had a protein delight shake for breakfast and a 6oz light and fit yogurt with 1/;2 jar baby food prunes for the afternoon snack. I feel very hungry around 9pm and try to eat some laughing cow light on my third 7 grain wasa lite. Am I eating too much. I am also taking a weight sculpting class 3 xtimes a week. Help! Just feeling so lost in the shuffle as everyone is losing rings around me. I could not tolerate being a failure at this too. Thanks for anything you can and are willing to help me with. Also any vitamins I can take that wont hurt the stomach more? Carole

Hi Carole, Thank you for your kind words. I am always happy that my ramblings may help someone. First, congratulations on your 37 pound loss! Celebrate your success! As you no doubt have read from me before, when is the last time that you lost - and kept off - 37 pounds in 10 weeks? Great job! You are NOT a failure. Okay, so you have failed at some diets. May I say that you are in excellent company here at OH? Seriously, just because you have failed does NOT make you a failure. I doubt that your surgeon would have taken your case on if he didn't think that he could help you. So find the nearest mirror, look into it and smile. You are worthy of success and all good things to come. Don't be afraid of success! I found the Weigh****chers Carb Smart dinners - or any dinner that has a meat and a veggie, no starch - is a good choice in a pinch. But not for every night because of the sodium. At first glance, it looks as though you may not be getting in enough calories and protein. Have you tracked your intake at something like http://www.fitday.com? It is free. I am a visual person, and the graphs on Fitday really smacked me in the face at a time when I was taking in too many carbs (on the dreaded regular Stouffer's frozen meals!). Track a day or two and see how your intake compares with what your surgeon's office recommends. A weight loss plateau usually occurs within about a month of starting a reduced-calorie diet, and may reoccur from time to time thereafter. During such a plateau, weight reduction stops completely or slows down to almost nothing. A plateau may occur because (1) your body simply wants a "rest" to cope with your calorie-reduction; or (2) your calorie-intake is in balance with your calorie expenditure; or (3) you have reduced your calorie-intake too low. If your calorie-intake is too low, your body thinks there is a "famine" and slows down your metabolism (how fast you burn calories) in order to conserve calories. This is where tracking your intake will come in handy. I was on the mother of all weight loss plateaus for eight (8!) months. My scale did not budge. But...I went from a size 18W to a 12P in that same time frame. I, too, was exercising, so the logical explanation was that I was replacing my fat loss with muscle (which weighs more). I am currently on month two of yet another plateau, but I still keep doing the same things everyday and eventually, it will break. Funny, but as I write this I just remembered that I now fit into size Medium scrubs, so I do know that positive changes are happening in my body. They just aren't measureable on a scale. How is your water intake? Hunger is a sign of dehydration. Maybe you need more water? Are you working towards taking in 80 - 100 ounces a day? I am afraid that I do not know the answer to your vitamin question. You will want to speak with your surgeon about that issue. I love Building Blocks chewables. They have 120mg of Vitamin C. Are you taking your vitamins on an empty stomach? Have you tried taking them with food? Hang in there, Carole. It gets better - I promise!! HTH, Kristen
