Im in the eastern part of Florida and was wondering if anyone knows of a good doctor. I have been thinking about the Lap Band surgery for a few months now and am having trouble making up my mind. I want to loose weight but I am nervous.

Hi Susan, A lot of patients travel from Jax to US Bariatric Orlando. You can also search for qualified surgeons at http://www.lapband.com. Nervous is good! That tells me that you have a good grasp on the benefits vs. the risks of weight loss surgery. Read everything that you can get your hands on and ask questions! HTH, Kristen PS - If you need financing, 877-LAPBAND offers financing programs at low rates for Lap-Band surgery (kind of like a Lending Tree for Lap-Band patients - searches for the best terms on your behalf).

Hi Susan. I'm in Jacksonville and was banded in November, 2005 and have lost 90 lbs. I did LOTS of research on the surgery types and the surgeons. I became a support group leader and even bought a house to hold the meetings in. I'd be delighted for you to be a part of our group and will tell you all about it, if you'd like. Dr. Steven Webb does banding and he's locatged right behind Memorial Hospital. There are also 2 physicians at St. Vincent's who now do banding and they had an ad in the Times Union this Sunday, December 31st. I've never been to their seminar but am planning to go to the one this month just to see the docs and hear what they have to say. I was banded by Dr. Robert Cywes. I went to Google and typed in his name and read up on his background. I chose him because it was only Dr. C (which I named him) and Dr. Webb doing banding at the time and Dr. Webb had only done 4 and Dr.C had done 40. Those numbers have grown but they's grown faster for Dr. C than Dr. Webb. Dr. C has now done over 300 bands. Sorry I don't have the numbers for Dr. Webb. I'd be happy to attend Dr. Webb or Dr. C's seminar with you and answer any questions you have. We can meet one on one and/or you can come to any meeting, any time. Our support group meetings are open to pre ops, post ops, no matter which surgery, family and friends and people who just have questions. I started attending support group meetings prior to my surgery and recommend that to anyone. There are numerous support group meetings in Jacksonville and I would be happy to let you know who's where and when they meet. I'm here to help if you need me. I'd be delighted to help you thru this wonderful journey. La Wanda

Hi Susan, I am a friend and support group member of LaWanda's group. As a leader she has to be objective about all the games in town but I don't. I have to say that I have met Dr. Cywes, attended his seminar and know many of his patients. He is the most wonderful person and completely the right man for the job if you live in this area (JAX) and are considering lap band. Look no farther. Go to one of his seminars and you will know. I would go to him in a heartbeat if my insurance would cover lapband but it won't. Do your self a big favor and look at him before you look at anybody else and then when you look at all the others look at Dr. C. again. I think that your decision will be clear. Kat
