Hi, I'm new to the board and looking forward to my group meeting with Dr. Rabaza in Miami on January 11th. I'm praying that I can have this surgery and move on with my life and live a healthy life. I have a quick question. My insurance carrier, UHC, has a rider stating that I don't have to have any comorbidities with a BMI of 40 or above. I'm exactly at 40. They should approve the surgery (fingers crossed). What if after I'm approved I lose a few pounds because my weight tends to flucuate a bit when under stress. My BMI might then be below 40. Can the insurance company then refuse to pay? Thanks a million! Yvette

Hi Yvette, Technically yes, but bear in mind that they will also look at your weight - ups and downs - over a period time via the medical records that support your doctor's letter of medical necessity. HTH, Kristen
