New to site...looking at lapband procedure...

Hey everyone. I am new to this site but I'm learning lots. I am looking at having the lapband procedure and will be meeting with my Dr next week. I live in the Jacksonville Florida are and will be seeing Dr. Robert Cywes. Has anyone on this site used him for lapband surgery? Any info that can be provided on the lapband and or my doctor would be soooo helpful..I'm really nervous to do this but I'm more nervous of dying young and leaving my kids and grandbabies behind... HI, I am also looking into getting the lap band, by Dr. Murr in Tampa. I will be calling him tomorrow to see, I was orignally going thru Dr. Rehnke but he is no longer taking medicare or medicaid, until they get things straighten out. I am nervous and scared. I am 60lbs over weight, bmi 35, with a slew of medical problems that could be correct with the lap band surgery. Merry Christmas to all and Happy new year

Hi Lynell, I too am in Jacksonville and have been to Dr Cywes' seminar last July. He is a wonderful doctor. A really good friend of mine was banded by him on Dec 20th. She has been thoroughly pleased and impressed by him. I was really nervous and unsure of having the surgery done myself but after talking with and listening to him just really put me at ease. Now I'm more afraid of what life will be like if I don't have it done. I have two wonderful kids and will be getting married in March so, I have alot to look forward to. Hey Cassie: Thanks for responding to my post...nice to connect to someone in Jax looking at using the same doc...so how far have you gone in the process? I just had my first meeting on the 29th of Dec..my second is set for Jan 16th..how is your friend feeling? any problems or pain yet? Where do you live in Jax? Hi Lynell, Well I am just beginning the process even though I sat in on the seminar last July. I had to have some very expensive dental work done and just didn't have the $300 up front that Dr Cywes' requires. So, I am hoping to get a consultation with him soon. I live on the westside of Jacksonville off of 103rd Street. So, not too far from OP. From what I understand there are two support groups that I know of one of them is at Dr Cywes' office on Thursdays and the other meets off of Merrill Road on Saturdays. I can't remember though if its every one or just once a month though. The lady that is in charge of the Saturday one posts on here about it alot though. I haven't been to either meeting yet but would love too. My friend is doing wonderful. No pain anymore at all. She was banded on Dec 20th.
