Did anyone have United Health Care when you where approved ????

I want to no what all UHC requires for approval of Gastric Bypass Surgery. Do they require a 6 months supervised weight loss before approval. ( See my husband started a new an this new insurance is UHC which start on february 1, 2007, i cant get information about the coverage online or my phone because we want get our ID cards until the end of January 2007, and I really would like to no your experience with UHC. Please Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi. My sis in law just submitted her paperwork for approval for Lap RNY with UHC. She did have to do the 6 months of monitored weight loss. She had a difficult time finding info. via web information with them and ended up having to call to get the information she got. Just for future reference, they have 30 days to approve you or not once the paperwork is submitted. Good Luck. Jenifer

I have United Healthcare. Both my husband and I were approved immediatley for surgery and we were not required to do anything. No 6 month diet, no testing. Just a note from the doctor saying it was medically necessary. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about UHC. It does however go with what kind of coverage your employer buys from them. My husbands benefits are out of this world and his company pays for everything. I've had 11 surgeries with UHC and never had to pay a dime out of my pocket for any of them. As of right now, UHC does not require a diet, etc. When there are benefits for WLS, we have only had to submit a Letter of Medical Necessity and supporting medical records. Of course, requirements are subject to change. It is always a good idea to start a physician-supervised diet and exercise program, just in case. HTH, Kristen
