I'm 4 weeks post-op yesterday and for the last two days no matter how soft the food is and how much I chew when I swallow I have a pain in the middle of my chest. It's not enough to go the hospital but enough to hurt when I swallow. Has anyone else had that and is there something I'm doing wrong when I'm eating?

Do not hesitate to call your surgeon or your primary now. You've paid them to look after you and now you need help. Were here for you too but when something inside of you doesn't feel right - call the brain team. They want to help too with a success rather than having to write obituary notes. Just the facts of our lives. Now call but let us know how you make out.

I suggest you call your surgeon. I had this problem from 7 weeks out. I kept it to myself and thought I would die with all the vomitting and sharp pain. At my 6 month checkup my surgeon yelled at me for keeping secrets and scheduled some tests. I did have a stricture and my stoma (opening) was too tiny for anything to pass though. After repair I was brand new and it never happened again but that is not always the case some people get strictures again. I lived on liquid protein drinks for 6 months...I did try to eat a little like mash potato and cottage cheese but that wouldn't do down either. Are you vomitting?

Hi Dreama, Are you measuring your food? If so, how many ounces are you eating of pureed food? It sounds as though you may be overfilling your pouch. Are you eating too quickly? Try eating with baby utelsils, that will help with not putting too much in your mouth/swallowing too much. Are you vomiting? Are you drinking within 30-60 minutes of your meal? Also, call your surgeon. Pain in the middle of your chest is not normal, and your surgeon will want to know about it ASAP. HTH, Kristen

Back from seeing the Surgeon. He thinks I may have the beginnings of a stricture however, because it comes and goes he wants to wait to see how I progress. I'm 4 weeks post-Op and have lost 28 pounds..I tried a diet for 8 months and couldn't lose that much. Anyway I wanted to thank everyone for the advise.
