Hi Karyn, First of all let me say congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Like some of the others stated, it does seem to be a different experience for each of us. I had an open RNY done on April 26 this year. I was in the hospital for 2 days after. I was hooked up to the morphine pump, but only used 2-3 times the day of the surger, and honestly, I probably could have got by without it at all. When I was discharged from the hospital, my surgeon gave me a RX for pain meds, but I never filled it. I really had no pain or discomfort to speak of, not even from the gas. I would attribute this to getting on my feet and walking as quickly, as much, and as often as I could. My surger was in the morning, I was taken from recovery to my room around 1:00 or 1:30 in the afternoon, and was up walking around the ward at 4:30 that afternoon. I walked on and off all evening, throughout the night, and all the following day. It really makes a big difference with recovering from the anesthesia, and helping the gas to dissipate. Good luck, and my thoughts and prayers will be with you. I will look forward to seeing you on the losers bench soon. Jerry

Hi I had surgery in Orlando on Nov 21st.. While it wasn't a piece of cake it wasn't that bad either. I used my morphine pump alot, walked as much as possible, layed flat on the bed when I could... went home after 2 days... started my walking by going out shopping every day and continued to utilize my liquid pain med on a schedule so I wouldn't not want to walk.... Now after 14days I feel right as rain. And by the way yes during the wekend before my surgery I had those second thoughts as well ut like others i realized that if i couldn't do it before what had changed? nothing... so let those nerves have a good talking too!
