I'm 24 and had my surgery in March. I'm down about 125 lbs now. I did have some pain associated with my surgery, mostly from the staples. However, its only temporary. You'll do great!! Amy

I know these are anxious and exciting days for you. Don't fear the tube....it serves a purpose. Make sure you get up and walk ASAP and use the incentive spirometer CORRECTLY after your surgery. You will have pain RX......I don't remember too much pain after the first day. Where are you having your surgery?

An incentive spirometer is a plastic device that you use to keep your lungs clear of congestion. You should get one and the nurse instruct you on its use. It's not painful....walking may be. Just remember to not give in and stay in that bed.....walk and cough.

If you drink alcohol this weekend...you need to drink tons of water M-W because you need to be well hydrated to help prevent any blood clots post op. And alcohol will dehydrate you... Sarah

I was instructed to avoid cafeine and alcohol for 6 months at best....I think I had a glass of wine on our wedding anniversary that year (August after my December Lap RNY). The body processes ETOH differently after WLS. Always remember that. luvitsunnyv

Yay on your surgery! I also had my surgery at So. Miami Hospital and had great care there. The nurses were wonderful and my room was huge and clean. As far as the NG tube. It's more of a nuisance that anything else, but they remove it the next day after the customary xrays to make sure it's OK. The drainage tube that you have in your belly, they take out a day or two later and is not the least bit uncomfortable. When they remove it, you think it might hurt, but its just a quick slitherly feeling. Not painful. I'm excited for you and will think of you on the 7th. Who is doing your surgery? Is it Rabaza? He is a doll. Good luck to you! Annette
