Alex - I'm in the same boat as you - however my case was that I had a kink in my intestine and adhesions. I would suggest you contact Dr Raul Rosenthal's office @ 954-659-5232.He's at Cleveland Clinic Weston. He did my RNY in Nov 2005. My Stats = 348 July 05, 312 Day of surgery 149 current weight. I'm surprised that Dr Diaz didn't give you a ref to another WLS???? I know what it's like to have friends, family and perfect strangers (my customers) tell me GAIN SOME WEIGHT. I am eating better now and I am religously attending the 3oz meetings @ my local Cleveland Clinic. Journal what you eat and make sure that you're getting enough protein - if not from food then supplement by way of the protein shakes. Feel free to keep in touch with me. I wish you the best and if you feel good, then don't let others affect you and cause your depression. Good luck! Barbi

Hi Barbi-I was reading your response and was curious to find out about your kink and adhesions-reason being I had my surgery in Jan of this year and a month ago I was having pain and went in for a laproscopy of my abdomin and was told after surgery that I had adhesions and my intestines were kinked-what did you doctor tell you about that because mine didnt really say much just that he had to snip a few areas and I should be alright- please let me know if you have a chance I would really appreciate it- thanks-Lori

Hey Lori - Happy Thanksgiving! I had my bypass on 11/30/05 and on 3/20/06 I had to have my ovaries removed because my WLS, Rosenthal found a solid mass on my left ovary during one of my visits. I kept complaining about pain in the lower left side and he kept insisting that he hadn't worked in that area (he hadn't) but to calm my fears he ordered a catscan and My gyn removed them laproscopically. Fast forward, I lost 195lbs by 9/1/06, all the time complaining to my nut and Dr Rosenthal that everytime I ate more than a spoonful, I was nausea, bloated, in pain and either dumping or vomiting within 10 mins. I could never get past the 1-2 oz stage of eating. I became ill on 9/1 - while on vacation in Philly. I was fevered and couldn't warm up for anything. My visit culminated with me blacking out as I was coming down a the stairs at my brothers and I broke my collar bone. When I came back home, I was having fevers that would spike to 102-103 and this kept up up to Oct. My family dr wasn't to happy with my surgeon and he then sent me to see a General Surgeon after he examined me and found my lymph nodes hard and enlarged. He removed the left one and I went through a scare because they thought I had lymphoma. I didn't but they couldn't determine what was causing the still recurring fevers. I was then sent to see an Infectious disease dr who tested me from HIV to lupus, a-z if you know what I mean. Still nothing, so she sent me back to Dr Rosenthal with emphasis that I insist on a complete evaluation to see if it was related to the WLS. Bottom line Dr Rosenthal said that he'd go in to do exploratory surgery but was confident it wasn't related to my RNY. As they explained to me, my intesting just below the point of the bypass had bent/kinked up and then scar tissue encased it keeping the bend tight. This cause food to get stuck and would trickle down. My body was shutting down on me. After the surgery, I was finally hungry - something I hadn't felt in almost a yr. Today, I celebrated thanksgiving with my family and ate a little of everything - even a small slice of Pumpkin pie. I no longer suffer from dumping syndrome, nor do I feel like food is stuck in my throat/chest area. I've got energy and color, now I alll I have to do is gain 10 lbs per my dr. I hope this helps. PS: Talk to your dr - don't let them not explain things to you! Ask question and demand answers! Happy Thanksgiving. Barbi

Please don't feel depressed, these people do not understand what it was like for u before the weightloss, I also have people tell me i'm too skinny, and my face looks withdrawn, believe me I don't care, i would rather hear that than the old stuff i used to hear "well u have such a pretty face, but u could lose some weight". Yes I know i look a little withdrawn, but I will take that over the old days. Please try to get to a meeting if there's one nearby, I also suggest that you talk to the nutritionist at your doctors office if there's still one there, or just get to any meeting you can. The meetings help a lot. I would also suggest that you may want to add some carbs back into your diet, namely wholewheat pasta, rice, bread and even sweet potatoes.By the way, would you mind telling me about the fat filler injections you get put into your cheeks, I could do with that!!! Please keep in touch with me when you can, you can email me at this website. Take care and good luck. Joanne

Thanks for your kind words and congrats to both of you.According to the letter i got from Dr Diaz office Mt SINAI did not renew his contract because of low patient volume. They did include in the letter 2 Miami surgeons who would take his patients but the clincher is it would be on a CASH basis only as neither one accepts my insurance(uhc).I already did start increasing my carbs and hopefully i can gain some weight back.I also started taking the disgusting protein shakes again.I am so glad the holidays are around the corner because im going to eat as much as i can.I know this sounds crazy.Joanne as far as the injectable fillers its called Radiese and its very expensive. There is a very well know plastic surgeon who does all the top south beach models and i have an appt with him on the 19dec.i heard each side of your face can run you up to a grand or more depending on how much needs to be used. http://www.radiesse.com/worldwide.html I am also looking into finding a local support group but can not seem to find any that would let you attend unless you did the surgery with the DR affiliated with that group. If any one knows one or can refer me to one is the s fl areas please let me know.Once again thanks and everyone have a Happy and healthy Thanksgiving day ALEX

I went thru this, too. I had 96" to lose for my surgeon's goal. I had achieved that in 7 months. I lost another 20 pounds even after adding 2 snacks and cutting back on my exercise. I had the anorexic look and people didn't fail to tell me about it whi*****reased my fears tremendously. My surgeon kept telling me that I would stop, gain a few pounds and stabilize. I mean, I had faith enough in him to do the surgery so I trusted his knowledge and experience on this issue, too. Dr. Diaz was part of US Bariatric in Fort Lauderdale (Holy Cross Hospital) when I had my surgery by one of their doctors. Perhaps you could call them and schedule an appointment since Dr. Diaz has moved his practice. (Dr. R. Marema or Dr. M Perez). luvitsunnyv

thanks Sunny YOU LOOK STUNING..I originally was going to due surgery with DR Marema but decided with DIAZ since i live on Miami Beach and just didnt feel like slepping to ft laud, anyway i will call US BARIATRIC and see if Marema or Perez can see me but in the meantime im just a nervous wreck.let me ask you did you eventually stop losing weight ,did your body stabilize, were you able to gain some weight back.I am feeling like you did with tremendous fear.I cannot lose any more weight and im only 8 months post op.Thanks for your reply and info.BTW do you attend their support group.i am thinking maybe they will allow me to attend their support group even though DIAZ WASNT PART OF US Bariatric when i had the surgery.I just need to here from others that this is a normal process and i will be able to start gaining some weight and not look anorexic for the rest of my life. Thanks again Alex

Hi Alex, try not to feel depressed, and try not to listen to people too much. While they may mean well, their comments often hurt, and don't help at all. They are just opinions - you know how you feel and what's best for you. And most people really don't understand what we've been through. I was a little worried about a month ago cuz I kept losing, but the last 3-4 weeks I've stabilized and kept the same weight. Your body will too. You can also see a nutritionist, to check out your daily food intake and see if you need to add a snack or something. I had my surgery with Dr. Eddie Gomez out of Mercy Hospital in Miami. He is an amazing surgeon and has given me fantastic support this entire year. His partner is Moises Jacobs, they are both wonderful doctors. Good luck to you Alex, don't worry, you'll be fine. Keep us posted and remember we're always here for moral support. Jeanne in Miami
