Daughter having WLS in India
Hey everyone,
My daughter is having RNY done in India on Dec.15th ,06 The hospital she is using is in New Delhi http://www.apollohospitals.com . The doctor is Dr. Kriplani. He is the chief Laparoscopic surgeon. Here is his website: http://www.obesitysurgeries.com - This hospital is awesome. They are English speaking. Most all nurses are Rns and. Trianing is of the utmost highest standard. The rooms are extremely nice. They even have webcams to communicate back to your loved ones. State of the art equipment. This hospital is also a "Center of Excellence" I had a doctor here tell me that part of his training was in India. He claimed it was the most through and he learned so much. She will be self pay and as we all know it is like buying a house here in the states. Mine was $40,000....she will have a round trip ticket, the surgery done, 4-5 days in the hospital depending on weather her Gall Bladder comes out, and three days in a motel close by the hospital when she is released incase of any problems....All that for under $10,000. The reason she picked India is because her husband of 7 years is from India.
My concern is the follow-up care here in the states. My WLS won't except anyone having surgery out side out of the states. Does anyone know of any concerns I should be aware of with follow up from a Personal care physician?
Hi Cory!!
If she is going to use a regular PCP for her follow up care I would just make sure that the doctor she chooses is totally aware of the needs of a RNYer and that she is comfortable with who she chooses. Maybe Kevin over at Dr. J's can help make a reccommendation for you guys?? I know he won't take on other surgeons patients but maybe they know of someone that can be of help. Doesn't hurt to ask.
Even though I see Dr. J still my primary care physician is fimilar with RNY and the needs of them. I also gave her a list of the meds that we cannot take to keep in my chart so that they are no problems down the road. I know my friend uses her primarily for her follow up care from having RNY in 2002 and she has done the same thing. Her surgeon released her from his care after 6 months and now she just sees the PCP for her needs and blood work. Other than that I can't think of any "concerns" off the top of my head. Geesh that wasn't much help was it??
LOL!!
Sorry I wasn't much of a help, hopefully others will have some better pointers for you!!

Hey Jo Ann
You were a help....I hadn't thought about keeping the meds we can't take in our files.
I have a personal care physician that has no problem with my WLS, (I better be giving him a list) but it makes me nervous because with the blood tests he doesn't take the same things serious that Kevin does. My PC doctor is helping her now with all the preliminary stuff the Dr. in India needs before surgery. I won't worry too much while she is here and I can help her, but she will go home to her husband in Ga. and have to start over with a doctor. She doesn't have one at all there. I guess I'm just being a nervous mother.
What helps is she has 3 years of nursing in college. She knows just enough to be dangerous.
