I think the responses you have received so far are pretty much on target. I would like to add that another thing might be happening that could cause more than normal hemorrhoidal pain and discomfort. When you think of how hemmorrhids are very similar to varicose veins, then you can picture how they fill up with blood. Now if that blood gets trapped in the hemorrhoid, it will clot. That is called a thrombosis. It usually causes more than the usual discomfort and itching associated with hemmorhoids - it really HURTS! Eventually these may resolve on their own, but a visit to your doctor may be in order. A simple little incision into the offending swollen and thrombosed hemorrhoid, and the clot can be removed - usually no anesthetic is needed and no stitches. It brings fast relief! So I wanted you to be aware of this, because it sounded like maybe you are having more pain that would be expected.
