Searching For Lap Band Doctors for my sister In Jacksonville,Fl HELP!!!!

Hello my name is Tracy and I had Gastric Bypass Oct 17th of 2005 and my older sister is in bad health and now is looking very hard into finding a Doctor in Jacksonville Florida to have the Lap Band done. (She is afraid to have what I had done) I'm trying to help her out due to she doesn't have internet and as well my Doctor was in Gainesville Fl and that is too far for her to go to have it done. I'm really needing some help of any great Doctors that could be suggested for her to check out for this if anyone could help me would be deeply appreciated... I am new to all this but I just went to a seminar with Dr. Cywes. He uses Memorial Hospital. He was very nice very informative. Everyone that I have asked says that he is one of the best in Jacksonville. If your sister wants to go to a seminar call 399-4004 use ext.13 to speak with his program coordinator Karma. I have also heard about Dr. Webb his number is 367-4443. I made an appointment with this office as well just because I wanted a 2nd opinon. I havent seen him yet so I cant give much information on him but I have also heard really good things about him. I hope this helps some. Hamida

Hamida, I believe Kat told you about me. I'm a WLS support group leader here in Jacksonville who was banded by Dr. C in November, 2005. I was happy to hear that you are going to check out both surgeons before you make a choice. I've told the people at the support group, if you can't brag about your surgeon then you chose the wrong one. By the same token, if you can't brag about your surgery, you picked the wrong one there as well. Banding is not for everyone so you gotta do your homework. If you'd like to attend a support group meeting, we'd love to have you. Pre ops are welcome as are family and friends and just the people who want to get some information. I attended meetings before I was banded and am sure glad I did. We meet this Saturday, November 4th - 7256 Merrill Road from 10 to 3 and people come and go at their leisure. Tracy, As I posted to Hamida yesterday, I don't think you will find anyone better at what he does (lap band exclusively) than Dr. Cywes. I have been to his seminar and heard him speak. I would encourage anyone in the Jacksonville area who is considering lap band to talk to Dr. Cywes first and last. There are a couple of surgeons who have recently began doing lap band at St. Vincent's. I believe they are new to this procedure. I do not have an opinion about these guys because I have not been to their seminars and I do not know any of their pts. I know many people who have been to Dr. C. and to Dr. Webb. If I were considering lap band surgery I would choose Dr. Cywes hands down! Kat
