Gastric ByPass and Medicines -- Dr Rosenfeld, Fox Sunday Morning
Did anyone catch Dr. Rosenfeld on Fox News Sunday Morning??
He was saying that medications dosages for bypass patient are different that for regular folks. Apparently due to the shortened gut, medicines do not get absorbed in the proper amounts.
Does anyone have any documentation or instructions for dosing bypass patients. I am particularly interested in antibiotics, as well as in general. I am already taking B-12 shots and a daily vitamin, so I am covered on that.

Tom & everyone,
As I've just recently completed the OH Leadership program and this subject was discussed.
The Best and really only way to determine what dosage of a pill is needed is by testings. Such as regular Blood Pressure levels. And constant Blood Lab Testings, twice a year. Plus Urinalysis and Bone Density testing at least once a year.
I was recently given a New List of Blood Lab Test & Comparisons Chart.
I am going to post it this evening as soon as I'm done typing it on here under a New Posting for Blood Labs.
So don't put off getting your Blood Tested regularly,
Mike
Tom-
Your surgeon is the best source of information on how the surgery will effect your medications. Personally, I give any doctor I see my surgeons name and number. Charts may be ok to give you a frame of reference -- but you need to talk to your surgeon if you have dosing questions or questions about your labs.

PS I see a clinical pharmacist at the VA about some of my medications. She sent an email to my surgeon before I even had surgery to determine how the surgery would effect the medications she monitors for me. Between the two of them they came up with an alternative medication on one and a change in dosing on the other.
