Port Charlotte area bariatric doctors??
Hi Everyone,
Anyone know of a good bariatric doctor in the Port Charlotte area? My surgery was done RNY in Weston, FL but now that we have moved it is too far to go to Dr. Rosenthal and need a doctor in Port Charlotte to take over my case.
I have loss 92 pounds since the date of my surgery, June 5th, partially by not being able to eat. Was in the hospital in Weston over Labor Day weekend and had a endoscopy while I was there. The stomach, openings, surgery etc all OK. I was dehydated .. then back to the hospital on the Sept 19th in Naples ... dehydated again ... then back again on Sept 29th. This time instead of just filling me with liquids via IV they did a CT scan found a mass of fluid that was pressing against my stomach, drained that, did a culture and found out it was a fungal infection. Antibiotics via IV and then 10 days oral Diflucan when I was released from the hospital on October 5th. Still can't eat much but am able to drink now. Went back to the doctors October 16th for follow up and given a prescription for 7 more days of Diflucan. They are doing another CT scan on October 23rd to see if the infection is still there since I don't feel much better than I did when I was in the hospital.
Has anyone had this happen or heard of it?
Thanks!!
Karen
Wow Karen, you have really been through the mill. I hope you are feeling better soon.
You might try doing a search at the American Society of Bariatric Surgery for a new doc. You can do a city search or a zip code search. At least if you get a surgeon off the ASBS site you know he has been vetted.

Wow...I am in Port Charlotte too. I had my surgery in Weston with Dr Rosenthal on Aug 24. I am sorry you had so many problems. I am doing fine. In fact I have my 3 month check up next week. I heard of Dr Mackensie here in port charlotte. I think she does the lap band. I hope you are doing better. I know that there are some local support groups in PC. I haven't gone though. Let me know if I can help you.
Take care

Thanks Netta!!
I had my surgery done on June 5, 2006 and was doing fine as well until about mid-August. I think that was when the fungal infection started forming a sac of fluid that was pressing against my stomach. As I said before, been in the hospital 3 times from Labor Day weekend to October 5, 2006 ... and still don't feel much better. I called Dr Mackensie's office and they only see lap band surgery patients. Had a script from the gastrologist that seen me in the hospital in Naples for a CT scan to see if the infection was still ongoing. This was done at Fawcett Memorial Hospital. The gastrologist recommended a gastrologist in Venice so went to see him. He thought I should be going back to Dr Rosenthal for this problem but going that far now is a hardship since I don't drive and my husband works Monday-Friday. He also apparently didn't see the urgency of not eating or drinking and being sick. He wanted the radiologist he deals with to go over the exrays .. or the CD .. my husband had to hand carry to him last Friday. When I called Monday was told the radiologist may not get to the exray until this Friday!!!!!! If I get any worse may have to go back to Naples for help.
Good Luck!!
Karen
