Thanks for all the supportive emails. I've always been the type to go out on the weekends to my favorite resturant with my family. I don't think a person has to be home bound just because they have had WLS. Before I could down a whole plate at Red Lobter and more. Now I just eat the vegtables and broiled fish on the kids meal. (I can only eat half). I called Home Town buffet, and told the cashier I had surgery ,and why should I pay an adult price. (I cant eat alot of food). She asked me to bring in proof and she would charge me a childs portion. I went in with the kids and all four of us ate for $12.00. All you can eat that was wonderful. I had some salad,a little meat, two small cantalope and honeydew. And still managed to taste a little bit of sugar free yogurt ice cream. They had sugar free desserts as well. Thursdays is kids night. They gave out ballons. Had the Bee come greet the kids. And they were also making the kids full bannana splits. They enjoyed themselves. They dont cook with much salt because alot of older people go there. But it's worth $3.00 instead of slaving over the stove everyday. I would have paid more going to a fast food resaturant.

Rina, most of us RNYers are told by our surgeons that were only allowed Proteins for the first 6-8 months. Has yours released you to eat those veggies and stuff like fruits which are high in their own sugars? Congrats on still getting out so soon with no problems too. Mike

Mike- your surgeon has you eating ONLY Protein for 6-8 months?!?!? Seems like you would do some damage- no veggies? No fresh fruit? No starch? Or just not the ones that Rina mentioned? Interesting....... Count me OUT of your 'most RNY'ers statement' - I eat about 1/2 cup of food total at each meal and that is protein, veggies, maybe a few carbs and on occasion, fresh fruit (low GI). XOX Lisa

I wondered about that! I don't know of any postop who was told to eat only protein for 6-8 months. Everybody I've talked to, including myself, eat protein, veggies and a little fruit. Some meals I do have just protein by choice, but typically my instructions are to eat protein first, then couple bites of vegies, and can have bite of fruit if still room for it. Mostly I save my fruit for the applesauce I have to use when I crush my pills. Each doc is different through.
