a few question-can you help?

hello everybody.. i have afew questions.. i just found out that my doctor , who is also my boss, says she will write me a referral to have lap band..... i wanna do some things before i start with the insurance troubles... 1. the 6 month diet-is that just going to be weighed and documented and nothing else can be recorded for the visit? 2. if i have health problems related to weight, does it all need to start being recorded? ( i never see the dr.) 3. does now being put on blood pressure medicine help to get approved? 4. what all needs to be in medical records? i have only had back pains and bp problems and palpitations and now found out i am in the very beginning s of mitral and tricuspid insufficiency.. but only a trace... does any of this help me?????? will the only approve if i show that i have lost weight non my own or if i havent??? Jennifer all of those things will help you to be approved. At the meeting I went to tonight the surgeon said the 6 month diet has to be recorded as for treatment of obesity. If you are having these medical problems they definitely need to be treated and the treating physician needs to be documenting them and that they may be weight related. The best thing for you to do is look for someone in your area who does this procedure and go to their seminar. They answer all of these questions. The one I went to even discussed the cost for selfpay pts. Oh yeah the coordinator at the meeting tonight said the insurance companies will not penalize you if you do lose weight during the 6 month required diet. So if you lose great but it won't cause you not to be able to have the surgery because you were able to lose some on your own. Good Luck! Kat
