Just found out my insurance doesnt cover this surgery. So, I cannot afford $23k to get the surgery. I was even going to sell my motorcycle if the price was right. Guess not. Must be a reason I dont know about. Fat for life for me!

Do they not cover any bariatric surgery or just not lap band...some insurances consider lap band experimental and do not cover it but will cover RNY or VBG. Sarah

Who is your insurance company. Some Insurance companies say no to the first request and you have to appeal Also, sometimes your surgeon must be involved. Do not accept the word "no".

Insurance said my employer opted not to get it on the policy and then when I called Overstreets office, Patrice said no since in fighting it, NO means NO.

Are you married? If so, can you get on your hubby's policy in the next enrollment period? I know it would mean waiting about a year but that would be better than what you are facing. Wishing you the best.

At one of the bariatric surgery presentations I attended, they mentioned that there is a non-profit, governmental? organization that sometimes covers WLS for those who don't have insurance coverage and/or can't afford it on their own. I don't have any idea how it works, but it can't hurt to contact them. Their website is www.rehabworks.org. Good luck!

Vocational Rehab is a state program that works with people who face significant barriers to either getting or keeping meaningful employment. Sometimes that barrier is obesity. If you believe your weight is an issue that is effecting your employability, then give them a call. They have many, many, many hoops for you to jump through -- but there are a few people on the board for whom VR paid for surgery. It is certainly worth the price of a telephone call. Red
