VSG @ Celebration Hospital

Hi everyone. I did my research and have found a Dr. that does the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, near Orlando. Ocala is were I really wanted to go, 25 minutes from my house, but no one does the VSG yet. Dr. Kim has operating privledges in Ocala, but he only teaches there. Dr.Kim, operates at Celebration Hospital, in Kissimee, FL. and Ft.Lauderdale. The hospital is a center of excellance in bariatrics. Dr. Kim, also told me that starting in Nov., the nurses will have to pass a test, to work in bariatrics. I'm hoping to have my surgery in Jan. I had a phone consult with him today. He was very easy to talk to and I asked lots of good questions, suggested by all my new friends on OH. We talked for about 20 minutes, which I thought was excellant. I have also started going on the VSG boards. They just started it not long ago. Nancy

Well, thank you Mike, It seems like things are moving very fast. It's alot different working with a larger surgical group. They are all on the ball, someone for every job there. Someone called me this afternoon about my insurance and told me what she needed. It took forever here in the R.I. office to get anywhere. Don't get me wrong, the surgeon that I would have had is top notch, but it's a small office and not enough people to handle insurance, etc. So, this is a pleasant surprise, to move quickly. Good morning, Ruth, I noticed Dr. Overcash, was your Dr. He also operates out of Celebration Hospital with Dr. Kim. I had called his office in Ocala, but they said he didn't do the VSG yet. I was considering Overcash or Jawad, for surgery. They both have excellant reputations. I would have preferred going to Ocala, because it is closer to my home. Actually, Celebration will work out better for my husband, because he will be able to stay in my hospital room. No traveling for him. LOL! Good luck on your journey. Hi Nancy, I had VSG on 8/28 in Florida -- in Naples at Physicians Regional. It has been a very good experience. I was a relative lightweight at 242. Now at less than 4 weeks I am down 30 lbs and can eat anything I want without getting sick (that is if it is not too much of anything I want Don't know about the Orlando area, but the folks on the VSG board have been a tremendous support to me -- even coming to visit in the hospital and providing care packages of protein drinks, etc. Best of luck.
