Signa Question

Does anyone have Signa Insurance? My son is interested in the surgery but has Signa and he says they do not pay, is that the case? Has anybody used Signa successfully? Please help. Lise

Hi Lise, I'm presuming you mean Cigna. Yes, I have them and they paid for my gastric bypass. The first thing to check is to make sure your son's employer hasn't excluded WLS from their policy. The main thing Cigna focuses on is proof of a six month physician supervised diet. There is a Yahoo group called Cignasqueakywheels, there are a lot of files there that can be very helpful, not to mention a lot of people who have been successful with Cigna. hey lise. i too have cigna and i have submitted my packet for approval on 09/11. i'm just waiting to hear back from them. what jeanne said is true, your son will have to be on a 6mos diet. he will also need a psych eval, and a letter of approval from his doctor. i also submitted a personal letter and the dietician i was seeing for my 6 mos diet wrote a letter on my behalf as well. the more "stuff" you have the better your case will be. tell your son i said good luck!

I had Cigna PPO and they paid for my surgery. I had to have six months supervised diet, psych consult, and nutrition consult. After all documentation together, they approved me on 1st attempt. Good luck! Mindy

Thank you all for your responses. I am relaying the answers to him. I already had the surgery 2.3 years ago and he sees the results and he is getting sooooo discouraged with diets that are not working for him at all. I would like to have him around for a long time so hopefully all of your responses will help him. Lise

yeah i had cigna.... they payed for it.... like all the other posts said... you will need all that stuff.... but hey.. did you used to post on the board?
