Anyone have surgery in Gainesville?

Hi I'm new to the site and live in Palm Coast (between St. Augustine and Daytona). I am planning on having a LRNY in late January, and I've decided on a group of bariatric surgeons in Gainesville who work from North Florida Regional Hospital. Anyone out there have their surgery done there? I'd love to hear about your experience. Thanks in advance!

Hi! I live in Ormond and I believe that I saw information on bariatric surgeons associated with Halifax. I have just started looking into surgical options and am leaning towards LapBanding. I, too, am new to this site. What is LRNY? Have you investigated anything local or is Gainesville our closest option?

The initials mean Laparoscopic RouxEnY. It's a type of gastric bypass. You can find info about it here. I went to a seminar that was held by a MD from Halifax re: gastric banding and my insurance (BCBS/National) won't cover it. They consider it an "experimental" procedure. As far as going all the way to Gainesville--It's less of a trip for me than Orlando, and my PCP (St. Augustine) prefers that I have surgery by the group there. I'd rather go there than Jax, frankly, as I don't want to run into any nurses that I recognize. I worked up there for some time. Good luck in your search!

I had my surgery there and didn't have any probs. I was in ICU the whole time too though.

Lisa I had surgery at NFRM. I had Dr. Brient from the Gainsville surgical group. I have to say he was wonderful and still is . My surgery was 3 months ago. If you have more questions i would be happy to answer. Good luck.
