Food Issues
I just started eating food about a week ago and the only solid food I seem to be able to tolerate is cottage cheese. I tried to eat a shrimp (steamed, no breading) and it was OK for lunch but when I tried to eat it for dinner, well, all I can say is that I don't want to go throught it again. I'm tring to eat only protein so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to food that is easy to digest & tolerate.
Thanks

for the first month after surgery, my surgeon suggests Soft meats like:
Sandwich meats
chicken
Fish
Turkey
I also would try cheeses and hardboiled eggs. They were my best friends for the first month afterwards!!
I still can't eat shrimp.. the chew chew chew gets to me.. cuz after a while they taste and feel icky in my mouth!! I also can't eat the same thing for lunch and dinner and most of the time, I dont do leftovers.. the reheated food is icky... but other times I'm ok with it.
Things get better, TRUST ME!!

Hi Noreen, I had my surgery on 08/22 and I'm still in the soft/pureed food stage. I try to be really creative with the things I can have. This is the kind of things I've lived on so far.
Egg salad made with just boiled egg and RF mayo and a little mustard.
Scrambled eggs with cheese....(for me, the scrambled eggs don't seem to go down as well as the mushed up boiled egg)
Cottage cheese with a little light yogurt or unsweetened applesauce mixed in for different flavors.
My favorite thing right now is refried beans with a dollup of light sour cream and a tad of mild taco sauce. YUM!
Refried beans and cottage cheese or some homemade guacomole sauce I made.
Tuna (I used the kind in the soft pouch...it is a little moister) mixed with RF mayo.
Crab meat (in the soft pouch)
Mashed potatoes with a little turkey gravy from the jar (Heinz home style turkey gravy)
Baked chicken thigh (not white meat). Once took a liitle mashed potatoes with tiny tiny diced chicken meat and a little gravy and it was fantastic.
Light yogurt
Talapia or Flounder baked (I usually put a little Newman's Own salsa on it just to moisten)
Shrimp with some sort of dipping sauce (sugar free, of course)
Sauteed scallops
Creamy black bean soup or creamy potato soup from Susan Maria's cookbook.
Both of these are yummy.
Egg custard from Susan's cookbook. Made pumpkin custard from her book yesterday. It was yummy!
Ricotta cheese with a little Marinara sauce heated just 30 seconds or so in microwave. (I use cottage cheese a lot of the time instead of Ricotta) This kind of satisfies my italian food taste.
I'm probably forgetting something! LOL
Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. I tried the lunch meat thing yesterday, and had problems. I'm going to go a bit easy today and try it again tomorrow. Between my food problems and my sleep problems, (I'm having problems sleeping at night) I'm at my wits end!
Again thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a try!
Best regards,
Noreen
Great suggestions Betty, I am 4 weeks out and having similar problems to Naureen. Your ideas are worth a try. I am existing on lite yogurt and cottage cheese. Your ideas at least add flavor. I am trying ground turkey and gravy tonight ...pureed in my magic bullet. Shrimp did not do well for me. Eggs are totally OUT. I used to love them and thought they would be good. No way... I did the Italian taste thing too.
My pouch is very finicky. It is so true that what you tolerate at one meal, the next time is poorly tolerated. Decaf warm tea is my best friend now.....
Take care
