suggestion on best protein powder
I like www.unjury.com the best but there are others at www.vitalady.com & www.bariatriceating.com too for variety. I follow what my surgeon suggests but he says to stay away from these shakes but their the only way I can get 120 grams of protein in every day.
Hi Elena, I'm just a week or so further out than you! In regards to the protein, bariatriceating.com has been my saving grace. Lots of tasty products and a msg board with good suggestions on how to mix and make things more to your liking.
Prior to my surgery I was beginning to panic because I couldn't find anything that didn't make me gag. I found several things at the above site I mentioned and am still testing out others. You can order just a single serving sample of different things to try it to see if you like it.....this is wonderful because I have wasted more money on Unjury and other things I have gotten locally only to find out I couldn't handle them. There is a new Micellar milk out in Dutch Chocolate and French Vanilla flavors that is easy to tolerate in my opinion, and it has 40 grams per carton. The DaVinci SF syrups are also handy to help the flavor of things.
Everyones' taste is different. Sometimes it takes a while to hit upon something that is tolerable to us. Good luck!
Elena, I also recommend getting samples from BariatricEating.com to see what you like, but as for local stores, you can get Protein Delite and Nectar products at The Vitamin Shoppe on SR 200 near Books-A-Million, but the problem is that you have to know if you like the taste because they don't have samples and you have to buy a whole jug of the stuff.
Nectar makes an awesome cappuccino that you can mix in water and then add to your coffee if you like coffee. Just a thought.

your taste changes. I like the unflavored anywhey from bariatric eating, or unjury, cheaper from bariatriceating. I believe we can only absorb 25 grams of protein at a time or something similar tothat. Whey protein is the best for us, and we will have to supplement with protein for the rest of our lives because we can never eat enough for out bodies need. We have a malabsorption surgery! You will try things, like it and change, I have. Given lots away and traded with others. Right now I like the unflavored protein, and the achiev drinks from bariatric eating, and the protein that tastes like jello in the plastic tubes at bariatric eating. I tasted one from the vitamin shoppe first, liked the fruit punch best. I used to put the unflavored in my coffee, but then it was a mental thing with me and spoiled my love for coffee So I mixed it with other things, sometimes a smoothie, so I could just enjoy coffee for the fun of it. I still take two shakes a day along with what I am eating, and I have to this day not lost any muscle mass from not eating enough protein. I know I have at least 60 grams in from the shakes, and that takes the pressure off of me to eat more than I should really eat.
Hope this helps.
Blessings, Tami
Try Hank's finest Protein Milkshakes, Vanilla and Chocolate. You can get one free envelope of each flavor mailed to your home so you can try them before purchasing them. They are very good. The web site to order is http://www.healthfitnesschannel.com/orderform.html.
I personally like the unjury and they are a bit less expensive then Hank's but.....If it helps you get your protein in then it's well worth it. Hank's are 22 grams of protein and Unjury is 20 grams.
Hope this helps..........Dee
I a 5 1/2 months post op and have finally found something that I can tolerate more than a week. I take 8 oz skim milk add 4 tbs powdered milk and 1 packet sugar free carnation instant breakfast. This equals to 20 grams protein. Just have to be careful to make sure you are not lactose intolerant before you take in this much milk.
