g-tube
Hi Ivelisse,
My didn't hurt a bit. It pulled a little but that was it. If they don't tell you to do the following do it anyways, because it keeps you from tensing up as they pull the tube. Just before they pull it, take a breath in and as they pull the tube blow the air out through your mouth. You can't tighten up your abdominal muscles when exhaling. Worked for me.

I'll be honest---it hurt like HELL. I don't mean to scare you BUT you need to know that some people do have pain with it.
It was much worse than the drain removal. I wish I had taken some pain meds before the doctor appt. I think that would have helped. Thankfully my mom drove me to and from the doctor's office that day---cause afterwards I was shaking too much to get behind the wheel of a car.
Taking a deep breath and exhaling as they pull it will help some, but every person is different and I could have been the exception.
Cindy I'm sorry you had pain!
How long was your G-tube in?
Were you scabbed over around the opening?
I'm trying to figure out where the pain came from for you- were you still swollen? The tube is so slim and the hole they make for it was plenty wide- I wonder what the cause for the pain is in the two of you that responded yes to pain. Hmmmmmmmmm..................
Dr. Jawad patients go home with the G-tube and it's removed about 5 weeks later. By that time, there is typically no swelling and it's actually already starting to pu****self out as your distal stomach is adhering to your abdominal wall- you can see the white-ish part of the tube kinda peeking out- it reminded me a little of a turkey timer- pops out when the birdy is cooked!!

Ivelissa,
I guess its different for everyone. Mine did not hurt. Silvia removed mine from Dr. Jawads office and we were just talking away and the next thing I knew it was out. I could feel her tugging but I thought she was just prepping the area for removal and then it was all over with. She was wrapping it up in the sheet of paper she had laid out.
Try not to worry to much over it.
I'm having surgery with Dr. Jawad that very same day for t.t. with hernia repair.
Good Luck,
Stephanie
If its the drain your'e talking about it hurt really bad when he removed it. My doctor took mines out in the hospital before releasing me. It was really quick and he said it may hurt a little. I was shocked because it was quick and painful. I felt better once it was out. The pain was nothing like the pain from the surgery itself. I felt like a car hit me. I haven't had any complications thank goodness. My surgery was august 14th 2006.
Don't worry about it Ivelisse...
It did not hurt a bit! Dr.Shebani removed both mine and my husband's (and he is a BIG BABY!!) and it does not hurt at all.
You are on your back, and you'll undo the tape on your sponges and all yourself most likely, then just close your eyes. First he lets the air out of the balloon, and then you can feel him snipping the sutures, and before you know it, it's out!
I felt an odd sensation as the length of the tube was coming out- but I promise you it just felt 'weird' but NO PAIN.
Of the people I know personally (maybe 10+) no one had pain when it was removed.
So relax, close your eyes and Kevin or Dr.S or Sylvia will take care of you. Try and sneak a peek at it when you are done- it's pretty neat lookin!!
XOXO
Lisa
