Had first postop appt today, 9 days out and I lost...
That makes two of us....I'm a shy one too. Are you talking about posting over on Dr. Lord's board here at OH? If so, don't be shy...just jump right in.
I don't pay much attention to whether someone is having the band or the RNY. We are all in this together and working toward the same goal. Dr. Lord and I discussed both RNY and the band at my consultation. His opinion (and I agreed) was that the band was not a good decision for me based on my past experience with cellulitis and infection that was unresponsive to anything but mega doses of antibiotics. He said he would be afraid that I would be at high risk for infections in the port that has to remain in the abdomen.

Yes at Dr. Lord's message board. I respect Dr. Lord's opinion and believe he is the best. My husband works with a man whose wife is a nurse at the hospital and even people who don't work with him there think he is the best. I am scared because I have had a bad surgery experience before and I am so encouraged by all the positive things I have heard. I chose the lap band because it is less invasive. I would not have ruled out the RNY but feel more at ease with the lap band. There is family history of bowel problems in my family {probably TMI !} that is why I didn't want the RNY. I go on the 21th to have my EGD. I've had one before so I know its not to bad !
Betty,
Congratulations on your weight loss! I am one week out of surgery today. I have done very well. The only problem I had was severe pain in my left lower rib area (probably from leftover carbon dioxide and that is where the surgeon worked the most). I had to have two tests and a chest X-ray to rule out a pulmonary embolism, but all was clear. Any way, I am thrilled for you! Keep up the good work.
