Get ready...get set
I had my two week pre op appt with my surgeon and anesthesiologist today. I received final clearance from my primary dr and I am good to go on August 24. I am on the two weeks of shakes and I have to say I am managing fairly well. I lost 6 lbs per the dr's scale this morning. I learn a lot from all of you. I can't wait to be on the losing side too. A couple of my lab tests (WBC, Platelets, Alk Phos) were very slightly elevated and I have to see a hematologist on tuesday...but he said it will not impact the surgery....Hopefully that will turn out to be nothing. Thanks for being there day and night. I find myself reading the postings in the middle of the night cause I am not such a great sleeper. It is good to know that there is someone who understands.....
Regards.

Netta,
I know you're excited! I remember the days leading up to my RNY. I was lucky, my surgeon didn't require liquids or a weight loss pre-surgery so I was able to eat several "last suppers" at my favorite restaurants right up until the day before surgery. Looking back, I realize how stupid that was. Not b/c of wight gain, although I did gain 2 lbs, but b/c I can eat at all those same restaurants now. I thought I'd never be able to eat those foods again and that just isn't the case. Of course, I can't eat nearly as much, and I have to be more careful with some foods (chew, chew, chew) but I can eat almost anything now that I could eat before my gastric bypass.
Be sure to take "before" pics (with & without clothes) and take ALL your measurements (neck, arms, midrift, thighs, ankles), not just the ususal, bust, waist, hips. You'll be amazed at how many inches you'll lose. And if you hit a stall, it is encouraging to see that you're still losing inches even if the pounds have slowed or stopped for a bit. I took pics once a month, in the same location and it is great to look back and see how things have changed. I'm planning to do a scrapbook, but just haven't gotten started on it yet.
Good luck on your journey. You'll be on the losing side before you know it!

Congratulations on your upcoming date! Mine is scheduled for August 28th. I began my liquid diet today. I have definately had a problem with head hunger when seeing commercials on TV today. Sugar free jello is going to be a big help, I think. Well, I hope all goes well for you during this adventure. Keep us informed of your progress.

I find that having broth while my family is eating makes me feel like I am having some soup...the salty taste rather than the flavor fatigue of all sweet and creamy is a welcome change. I am hungry but keep drinking and take it hour by hour. My date is a week from Thursday. I hope the time passes quickly for both of us. Good luck to you....I will be only 4 days ahead of you.
